Backstage Brass is a 12-piece tribute to the greatest horn bands of all time, authentically covering classic songs from legendary artists such as Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Huey Lewis & the News, Blood Sweat & Tears, Toto, Steely Dan, and many more! The band features a powerhouse 5-piece horn section, which allows us to play all of those amazing horn band songs just like they were meant to be played!
How the Band Got Started
3 decades in the making!
Tim Lake (keyboards, lead vocals) has been managing and leading horn bands for over 30 years, encompassing many hundreds of performances at wedding receptions, corporate functions, private parties, and live music venues. Most cover bands don't bother with having a horn section; it's a lot more work, and let's face it -- you have more people to pay. But, Tim has always had a very strong desire to present music authentically, as true to the original recordings as you can get. Playing horn licks on a synthesizer just doesn't cut it.
Fast-forward to 2024... Tim began talking with his closest bandmates about taking things up a notch -- or maybe a whole lot of notches! The idea was to create a new tribute band, but a tribute to whom? Earth Wind & Fire? Chicago? Tower of Power? Then one day things became clear. The question was asked, "Why do we have to limit ourselves to paying tribute to just one band, when there are so many legendary horn bands out there?". That was the magical day "Backstage Brass" was born, with the goal of paying tribute to the greatest horn bands of all time. All of them.
But you can't just throw together any group of musicians to play this kind of music. An average band is not going to have the right level of talent to pull it off (well, unless maybe it's the "Average White Band"!). Backstage Brass is chock-full of some of the finest performers in the Nashville area, and you'll discover within the first 60 seconds that Tim surrounded himself with exactly the right people to play this music in spectacular fashion!
